Big Boy!

Our Little Man is 2 months old, and you know what that means! It means his poor legs have been asaulted by the mean nurse, and he's been measured again. When you start out at nearly 9 pounds, you get really big really quick. Josiah is now 14 lbs 11 oz and 26 in tall!!! Even though Laura goes to these appointments with all 4 children, the doctor looks forward to these visits. She hardly has any questions, and when she does have one, it's usually easy to answer. That says a lot about Josiah too, he's pretty laid back--though right now he's fussing because of his sore legs from the shots. He likes to smile, and make baby noises. He's starting to put his fingers in his mouth and sometimes will hold on to a toy and try to put it in his mouth, it just needs to be a really light toy, otherwise he whacks himself in the head. He enjoys the pool, but spends most of family pool time like the picture above, or sleeping in the shade:

Talitha's instincts

Talitha is such a sweet girl! We were so glad Laura's parents made it in town before Josiah's arrival, even if it was just the evening previous. Talitha still really prefers her Mom and Dad, so to reaquaint with Grandma and Grandpa before spending an entire day with them was good for her. She really missed her mom and dad though when they had to spend all day meeting Josiah. When she did get to come up to the hospital to see them, all she really cared about was Mom and Dad. She wasn't too sure what to think about the tiny little face sitting on Mom's lap. When it was her turn to hold him and meet him, she was excited to see he had all the same parts she did:

Now that he's been home several weeks, she likes him a lot. She always wants to know where he is, "Ees baby?" is a common question throughout the day. Talitha likes to try to bounce him in his bouncy seat, and give him hugs and kisses while he sits there. Talitha asks to have Josiah sit on her "wap" on the couch. She'll even wipe up his spit-up for him, though sometimes she's a bit more vigorous at it than he would prefer. Her favorite thing to do is sit next to Mom when Josiah is nursing, because that is when she gets to read books with Mom. She really likes that she sits next to him in the van too. Since he's been home with us, her mothering instincts have come out more. She already had enjoyed playing with babies, but now she takes care of them with more purpose. Talitha likes to help her babies burp, tells Laura when they are "wet" and even likes to carry them around like Laura carries Josiah--in a sling.

Hannah and Josiah

Hannah loves her baby brother. She wants to hold him on her lap all the time and can hardly wait till she can feed him. Since Mom told her that right now he only needs to nurse, she has been content to hold him afterward. She doesn't even mind if he spits up on her. He has some projectile spit-up, and one day he really did get it all over her shirt when Hannah was standing a foot infront of him talking to Mom. She just said "oops, he spit-up! I will go get a towel" and went off to the linen closet to get a towel to clean up the mess. Mom did help her change her shirt after the mess on the floor was cleaned up though. When he fusses in his bouncy seat, she wants to pick him up to help soothe him. If he spits up, she'll run to grab a wash cloth and wipe his face off, often with too much enthusiasm for Josiah's liking.

Right after he was born, she wanted to make sure he had all his parts. He was swaddled on Laura's lap in the hospital and she asked where his feet were. So Laura uncovered one foot to show her, then Hannah uncovered the other one to make sure he had both. She likes to give him kisses on the head, and has to be reminded not to touch his face or hands. Hannah always wants to know where Josiah is, and will check on him often when he is sleeping. Her mothering instinct is coming out even more this time around, though it was pretty strong even when we had Talitha. She hates for him to be left out of anything we are doing. When his belly button was still healing, she would ask all the time if his belly button was better yet so he could come in the pool. Now when he is relaxing in the bouncy seat on the pool deck while everyone else is swimming, she will ask when he is coming in the pool. When we took him to his first check-up and he had to get a shot, she said she didn't want him to get poked, she didn't like it when he gets poked. Hannah is a sweet girl!
